Other people in this topic are showing such lovely examples of beautiful gardens and window sills. My is nowhere near that level, but I am proud of my little troopers just the same. I have always loved plants and enjoyed a Western window when I was studying in IL. In Miami, I have a North-facing window that unobstructed. It's pretty bright for a Northern window and my plant choices are limited. I, however, won't let that stop me from growing plants. I constructed a plant terrace/growing area using old wrought-iron tank stands, ceramic tile and some 28W T5 fluorescent light fixtures. The plants are doing extremely well right now. The photos were taken very early this morning, and yes there is a suspended bird cage holding one spice finch. I'll put it this way, between the singing bird, the plants, and the tanks, this is a very, very soothing room.

Full shot of plants, with flowering phalaenopsis which will be relocated below when it stops blooming.

Selaginella kraussiana. I like to actually pet it, it feels so nice. The bowl is to retain humidity.

Syngonium podophyllum (Nephthytis) top, Maranta leuconeura, bottom.

M. leuconeura flower, blooms a lot.

Dieffenbachia picta

Growlight area underneath stand. Two 28W T5 compact fluorescent fixtures are hooked up underneath. I have 56 total watts. Based on the shadows, I perhaps have medium-low to medium growing conditions, which is alright for phalaenopsis orchids, african violets, Paphiopedilums, and such.

A Dendrobium/Phalaenopsis hybrid. Will be relocated outside when it's done blooming.

A Phalaenopsis which is blooming again! This was accomplished under these growlights and the Northern window, so a really good sign that these conditions are good. I hope I can get a keikis of this plant, I really like the flowers.

Another orchid. Mother purchased this for me as an early b-day present. I'm guessing it's a Brassia/Miltonia hybrid, but I'm not certain. It is continuing to flower in the bedroom but it is under a fluorescent lamp. When it's done, it's going outside. S. Florida in the winter is ideal for growing many types of orchids. The general plan is that you grow them outside and bring them indoors while they bloom.

All of these plants are fed with dirty tank water, much less harsh IMO. The next purchase will be a humidifyer for the room. Thanks for letting me share my plants. Questions and comments are always welcome.
