Just bought a new L260 Plec hope you like him/her. If anyone can tell if it's male or female that would be great.

He / she is looking quite brown instead of deep black or dark charcoal. But it could just be stress colouration and it will become darker again once settled.
The males can generally be identified by the odontes and the famels have white bellies. But this is usually only easier to see in young adults onwards.

Post some more pics once settled if you can :good:

I got it from Roundtrees garden centre in Tickenham, just outside Bristol. The aquatics section has another name but I forget what it's called. I paid £25, I know it's on the expensive side but their tanks and stock are very clean and well presented so I don't mind paying a little extra.

Will do Bloo, The fish looked alot darker in the store and I'm sure it will get darker once settled.

Gorgeous Arabesque you have there.

How big is your L260? I don't see much odonte growth, but that may be due to the fish being young. What does the belly look like? Sub dominant males can also sometimes have white bellies. I think if you wait a few months and the fish settles down, it will become more apparent what you have.

We bought our first in February this year. About 2 months after we bought him his odontes grew nice and long and his pectoral fins became hairier. He did always have a mottled belly, so we were pretty sure he was a he.

I got another L260 in May (birthday pressie) and it took another 2 months before we could tell for sure what sex she was. She has an almost completely white belly, short odontes and not much hair on her pectoral fins. She is also very plump from above. Our male has become more manly since we got the female too.

Good luck, your Arabesque is lovely and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with him/her.

:D

It's around 2 inches in length, as soon as I identify the sex I will get it a partner.

I just can't stop snapping so here's another pic.

Lovely indeed  and already darkened up a bit. If I'm right, it's a male. Looking at the reflection in the glass it looks like he has a coloured belly - and not white. Which would make him male :good:
Hope he settles in well - ps: it's really not a bad price and quite average I'd say.
