Hi all, i have another sick clown loach :(, i have lost 3 to the exact same symptoms so would like some advice please to try and save this one as i only have two left

Symptoms:
Very rapid gill movements
Staying right at top of the tank with his snout out the water (looks like gasping for air)
Very pale
Won't swim off if i go near him like he usually does
Red streaky fins

I have no idea what this can be, two of my other clown loach have died from this and i have tried lots of treatments on them which didn't work, i tried finrot/fungus treatments, internal bacterial treatments, whitespot treatments and they didn't work on the others at all so have no idea.

I really want to save this one guys and definitly don't want my last one affected as he is massive and was my sisters so can't have him geting this too, Its only affecting Clown Loach for some reason :(

P.S, All my water stats are fine
any help would be great.

Please post your water stats (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH) as many people say they are fine but they aren't. Also, are you aerating the tank as if your water stats are fine then it could be a lack of oxygenation. If your water stats aren't good then the clown loaches are extremely sensitive to this and can get stressed out and die. The red streaky fins means that he has an infection (probably septicimia). Do a 20-30% water change for now to see if he improves at all, as it can only help. Also, you shouldn't rush to treat fish for if they don't have a disease they can easily die from stress due to the meds, and were you treating with these all at the same time? as you should never treat with multiple meds; they interact with each other and can sometimes poison your fish. Also, a lot of meds reduce oxygen levels in water which can also stress out fish.

i'll do another water test and report back here, i'll also add some pics to show you :)

Water Stats - 17:25:

PH - 7.5
Ammonia - <0
Nitrate - 30
Nitrite - 0.1

Stats seem fine as usual (they don't change much at all in this tank),

meds were not put in at the same time, there's more than enough air getting into the tank and tons of filteration, any ideas?

Get a slight nitrite reading there need to get that down with a water change.
Red streaks in the fins can be septicemia to poor water quality.
Have any of the clowns gone thin.
Also can we look at size of tank in gallons or litres, and how many fish and which type.

When the other Clown Loachs got this they didn't get thin but did stop eating like this one has, he has stayed up in the corner by the breeding traps for most of yesterday and today like the others did, the other two died within 3-5 days and this one is on day two so need to be quick really to figure something out to save him :(

Can see straight away what wrong the tank is overstocked.
Need to rehome the bala sharks they need very large tanks of 90gals.
I would add another filter while you sort your problem out.

Your tank is extremely overstocked! It probably worked ok while the fish were all juvies and then over the 2 months they started to grow and produce more waste. 10 Platies at adult size will all be 2" that's 20 gallons (75L) of room they need right there which is a little more than a THIRD of your tank. Not to mention that livebearers and plecos (which you have 6 of) produce tons of waste.

You either need to get a bunch of new tanks or one larger one (somewhere in the 800L+ range) or rehome your fish. The water quality is probably terrible and I'm seriously starting the question those water stats. Also, do it ASAP!

Edit:

Add another filter like Wilder said and keep up with water changes (20-30% every 3 days; everyday would be better)

i have 8 tanks in all and this tank has been setup for 4 years and this is the lowest stock i have ever had in there!, there's two external fluval filters running in there and an internal fluval 4 (since new), the water stats are fine (as always) with no ammonia at all and i have performed a 40% water change to be safe, i've been keeping fish for 16 years and this clown loach problem is the only major problem i have had, i have a group of 16 clown loach in the 7ft tank (no deaths in this tank for 3 years) and they are fine but i didn't want to move any around incase cross contamination occurs.

the bala shark is planned to go into the other 8ft tank with 3 fully grown bala's but he's still to small for that as the other bala's would pick him out

p.s, still have no idea what this problem is :(, is there any treatments you would recommend?

Don't know location, maracyn one and two if in the states, if uk anti internal bacterial med by interpet.

I done a 60% water change and added water conditioner + added melafix + added interpet anti internal bacterial treatment as i suspect it to be secptacimia or a gill infection/gill flukes or along those lines, all medications i have added are fully compatable with each other and i have used this combination many times on different tanks so know its safe to .

if this treatment doesn't work then i really have no idea on this one, im more determained to find out whats wrong with the clown loach so i know for future reference really
