Fish Looks Like It Will Explode!

Hi,

I have had my goldfish for almost 4 years. Its stomach has swollen up so huge and it looks like its going to explode. Its having trouble swimming but apart from that seems quite healthy. It is still eating well but Im worried about its swollen belly. Can goldfish get tumours? Is there anything I can give it to reduce the swelling?

ok some more info for you. it has a white stringy thing hanging out its bum, possibly poo but it doesnt look like it, and now its floating around upside down. doesnt look good

Any chance of a pic from the side and above? Do the scales stand out from the body at all? What do you feed and do you have stats for ammonia, nitrite,nitrate and ph? How many gallons is the tank, and which filter are you usung? How much do you water change and how often?
You mention a new tank in your sig, how long have the fish been in it and was it cycled.
As the fish are 4 years old how big are they and are they common or fantail types?

im gonna try and attach a pic of the tank and the fish. I havent got the stats but ill test them and let u know what they are. The filter is just a standard internal one. I think the tank is big enough for the two fish, it has been up and running for about 2 years now, i just havent been on this site in a long time lol! and the fish that is sick is a fantail (i think) and the other one is just normal. The scales dont seem to be standing up at all.

Cna you describe its "poo"? It could posibly have a large tapeworm infestation inside it- waht do or have you fed the goldfish since you have had it? Any live, frozen or fresh foods? Goldfish can get tumors, so that is also a posibility too.

That looks like a worm infestation and i seriously think you need to get that fish out of there. As for curing it that is the problem.

How long has the fish been like this and have you added any thing new to the tank at all that could carry parasites.
What do you feed them on, any tubifex?

I cant really think of anything else it could be as it looks like theres a lot of air in there. Maybe once its been seperated dont feed it for 3 days, try the worming stuff and then feed peas if its still hungry.
