Yep bala shark's can grow 14" need at least a 6'x2'x2'. Other than that it's nice. I like the bamboo shrimp.

thanks for replies
it's 20 inches long and 20 inches wide. I ve got a silver gourami, a mountain shrimp, angel fish, 2 baloon platys, a cardinal, a glowlight and a silver shark. i think my silver gourami is going in my mates tank soon though as its nipping the angel fish.
the shark will be going in my boyfriends tank when its that big, how long do you reckon it ll take for the shark to get to around 4 inches? its about 1.75 inches now.

great tank, really like the setup.

trouble your gonna have with the shark is you can never really be sure when your tank size is affecting its growth so its best to rehome fairly soon.

it will be lonely too as there shoaling fish so if your boyfriend has room he should get atleast a couple more. :)

Yea bala sharks not only grow large, but they need to be with other bala sharks..

You will probably want to grab a couple more cardinals and a couple more glo lites.. as they are schooling fish too.

When schooling fish are kept my themselves it stresses them out.. that will effect their life span, and will probably also effect their health.

yeah i will get my bofriend to get a couple more sharks, he likes them anyway....
i did have 7 cardinals but they all died except for one a while back and there were 2 glowlights but one totally disappeared...so i might get some more but not straight away... (i didnt have much luck when i first set up my tank)

You should make sure your boyfriend gets a huge tank also to house those balas.

Your looking at a 6'x2'x2' minimum though IMO that's not big enough for a shoal of 6, 14" active fast swimming, easily freaked fish.

Don't tell your boyfriend to get any more sharks.. they will grow to over a foot long...

you really need to get rid of the shark, and get more tetras.
