After looking through some bettas on aquabid.com, I notice there are some names that I am still not familiar with after a year and a half of learning about bettas. Now, are rosetails plakats just plakats with a rigid end? If so I may just have one. I named him Tim and just recently purchased him from one of my LPS. Another is "Dragon" where you can cleary see almost every scale on the body, kind of like the betta in my avatar. Are these made up names that are just used for bettas with tails/scales like these?

Hi there,

The first one is a Rosetail and Rosetails got their name because their tail has more branches than a regular Plakat, therefore causing it to have the "ragged" shape.

The second one is a Dragon indeed. Dragons are named after their silver/copper scales so called over top of their base colour. Many Dragons now come in Green, Blue and other colours as well. This one in the picture is a Red Dragon. They're both lovely fish :)

They're really nice bettas...And I wish they were mine. Lol, both pictures off Aquabid. Would the dragon's be a hybrid breed? or a mutation possibly? Very interesting, and beautiful in my opinion. Thanks a ton for the replies!!!!

The dragons somewhere along the line probably have some imbellis genes in them to get the shinyness of the scales and maybe fighters to get the scales so profound :/ but im not sure, im no expert in that region!
