Does this mean anything special? i just counted the rays on my red females tail and she has 10 on there. 2 of which branch into 2. I still think she has a bit of CT in her even though her parents where PK/HM.. HMM

Hi Bret,

I always thought (though I could be wrong) that when people describe bettas as 10ray/etc it meant that each ray would branch into a total of 10 (not that she has 10 rays in her caudal fin). But, like I said, I'm not entirely sure...

A true 10-ray does not have 10 rays in the tail all together. Each seperate branching is 10 rays.

This is a 10-ray female from Luvmybetta:

I've always wondered about that. So what would my betta, Sydney, be? Some rays branch into more than others.

bettas4me, I'd say 4 rays since it looks like most split to 4, but she has the potential for 8.

So, whats up wit my fish? she has 10 actully coming out of her tail then the top and bottom ones split into two :/

Thanks, Synirr! I was counting the rays on one of my other girls, Crimson. She has 10 rays...6 branch into 8 rays and 4 branch into 4-6 rays. (I hope that makes sense.) Anyway, I'm guessing she would be an 8 ray since most branch into 8. :hyper:

I still dont know what mine is.... if hers is a 8 ray cos most branch into eight is mine a 1 ray lol.. Because only 2 of her 10 rays go into 2 :/

Okay...I could be wrong, but yours could be at 2 ray. I was reading an article today on BettySplendens and it stated that even most VT are 2 ray. I looked at my VT to see and his rays branch very close to his body...The same is true for my VT female. I am thinking that your girl's rays might do the same. It was really difficult to tell on my bettas, but I could tell when they flared. I hope this helps, BW. Do you by any chance have a really good picture of your betta?
