Hi, i've been thinking about keeping Betta's for a while.
Ive got a 25 litre tank (i think thats about 5 - 6 gallons? Its one of those half hexagon ones).
Would a male and female be ok in my tank? Also they dont need a filter? But i will need a heater?

Sorry for the questions :(

Thanks for your help :)

ok personally i dont like hex tanks but there not as bad as bowls 2 male and females dont go together so dont try a filter helps but it should be a gentle one (though not essential) and a heater is needed

I was thinking about getting a new tank, a 10 gallon one.
So ur saying u cant have a male and female together?

Sorry again for the questions.

Thanks

no you cant keep male and females together and the hex is a better home than most get anyway

you put the female in until she spawns then remove otherwise the male will rip her to pieces

oh, thanks.

So if i put dechlorinated water into the tank, i can put the beta in straight away?

yeah you know about cleaning it and stuff dont you

Thanks! I'll get the tank sorted out and hopefully get one on monday, i'll post a pic if i do :)

i'm not too sure about cleaning, i'm just reading the pinned FAQ thread

Hiya Sparky_555,

Yup, just like smurfy said, males and females will rip each other to pieces if they're in the same tank. Also you can only have one boy per tank. They don't require a filter as long as you're diligent about water changes. I do about a 20% change a couple of times a week and then on the weekends I do a tank clean out where I take the betta out and wash the gravel and everything to get rid of poop. If you do use a filter just make sure it's current isn't too strong.

Once dechlorinator is in and the water is at room temperature the betta can go back into the water. If you live in a cold place or a place where the temperature changes a lot a heater would be nice for them to keep the temperature warm and stable. I set mine at 25 degrees celcius.

Your half hex tank sounds great for a betta, he'd love all the room to move around. They're so much more active and cute if they have a bit of room to move

If you have any other questions, just yell out and we'll try to answer them :)

Like everyone else has said. :D :good:

Sorry for the questions :(

And don't feel bad about asking questions. I think that is the best way to learn. I prefer getting answers straight from people here on the forum rather than looking in the FAQ. But people tend to tell you to look in the FAQ on this forum before posting a question. I don't know why...

But yeah, I know at least I will always be willing to take the time to answer any questions you (or someone else) has if I know the answer.

The tank also has a mirror for a background, will this be ok or will i need to cover it?

Hi Sparky. Its ace that you are asking questions first. I think the mirror will need covering. The poor betta will keep flaring at his refelction and wear himself out! :good:
