Hiya everyone,
Just setup my new 4ft tank and thought I would post a couple of pics of it. Before hand I had a 30" tank which looked a bit ragged. So I transfered all the water, filter etc over to the new tank and moved my fish over. The whole move equated to a 33% water change so hopefully all will be OK. Anyway, here are the pics and hopefully it will take oof and I will be able to post some more when the plants have taken hold. Hope you like.

:)

Can you give a few stats on this tank? Gallons, lighting, CO2 injection, etc? Just curious. Oh, and a plant list if you not too busy.

llj :good:

He he,
The only problem, is that I need to get some more fish now as they look a bit lost in such a large tank. However, I think i will wait until a couple of weeks to make sure that everything is all OK.
The tank specs are as follows:
Fluval Deep1200 (approx 50 US gallons)
80W of lighting (yes I know I need more)
Undergravel heating
Laterite
2mm Black gravel
Fluval 304 filter

I will be getting a CO2 system in the next couple of days.

I will post the list of plants tomorrow as I have spent nearly all day sorting this all out lol.

Hiya fishkiller,
I have had the moss ball attatched to the rock for about 3 weeks now and there isn't any browning yet. But the tank it was in wasn't very good for plants (and I only found out that it isn't possible to attach them to rocks after i did it lol). But I am going to leave it and see what happens as i did spread it very thinly. And yes i will keep this updated as this is my first attempt at a planted tank. just wondering how I am going to fit a third light fitting to the fluval hood now.
P.S. Does anyone have a pressurised CO2 system for sale, if so pleasegive me a shout.

Thanks for all your great comments. I have just added CO2 to the tank, so we shall see if it all takes off now. I have no problem with pruning everything back as it will make a change to have a good growth of plants. Will keep everyone posted with pics as the tank progresses. Got a few more plants coming still, but i don't want to overcrowd the whole tank. i think it looks good with the bare forground in the middle which seems to break the tank up a bit and give that illusion of size.

Here is a new pic showing how well my riccia is growing. Also it gives me a chance to show off my new babies lol. The fish obviously like the tank as these came out into view 18 days after the adults were moved to the new tank. (18 days was when I first saw them, I didn't even know the eggs had been laid).

The cave is a piece of bogwood that the Clown Loach use as a cave and yes it is a mossball spread over a rock, which has survived for about 5 weeks so far.

Just a quick one. This is the second day that I have had the CO2 working properly and my plants started pearling for the first time tonight.

I hate you. I love kribs. I am very jealous right now, but this will pass and I will not hate you anymore. See, already better. I don't hate you anymore.

Congratulations on the new babies. :good: I bred kribs for a few years back in Miami, and exchanged fry for goods at a LFS, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. You seem to have a great pair, they're actually together at this stage, which is impressive. They are a bunch of show-offs! Kribs get a kick out of displaying their kids to grandma! At least in my case it was grandma. What's your pH? What are you feeding the grandchildren. I fed mine newly hatched BBS (Baby Brine Shrimp)

Again, congrats, they have a great environment to spawn, so get ready for more and more babies.

The rabbits of the cichlid world. Kribensis.

llj :D

Poo, making me miss my kribs, they were named George and Gracie.

How did you attach the moss ball to the rock? I think i'm going to try it, looks very effective. Also, I really like your tank, it looks very spacious but not empty. Something i'm going to try and aim for with mine!

Hiya Neal,
All I did with the mossball, was to open it out and spread it over the rock as thinly as possible without tearing it. I then used a hairnet to hold it in place. The hairnet does have to be tight otherwise the moss will try to lift away from the rock. Not sure if this will work as I have seen posts where others say that they couldn't get it to work. However, mine has been like this for 5 weeks and so far no bad signs. Good luck with your tank and remember high at back and low at front. i also found that the black gravel and background give the tank a greater depth.
Thanks
Ian
