i have a pregnate molly. i've had her for about a week. i put my molly in a 2 gallon tank like suggested to me. i put in another female and a guppy so she wont get lonely. im not sure if thats wise. shes been in there since last night. there is plenty of hiding places for the fry when there born. she still id a bit nippy to other fish tho. im confused and im not sure what to do. any suggestions? should i move her to something bigger? any suggestions are appreciated. i really dont want her aborting the pregnancy so i need advice soon

how do i kno if shes in an advanced state of pregnancy? i dont want t omove her again because it might cause stress and i dont want her to die or abort the pregnacy

Yes, move her to something bigger, and preferably add marine salt to make the water slightly brackish, if you haven't already. There is more on that in the pinned topics. Also, keeping other fish with her is likely to stress her out more, rather then helping her.

Do you happen to have a picture of her?

yea. here it is. i dont have marine salt but i could move her. i havee a 5g and a 10g. the 5 is more convienent but i could put her in the 10 in neccissary. i dont have marine salt, just table salt

Could you go get some marine salt today? I'm glad you put her in the 10g, that will be best for her. :)

She looks pretty pregnant. It's hard to say how far along, since they all differ...but she's pretty pregnant, by any standards.

Am I right in saying when moving pregnant fish, it's safer to scoop them up in small cups filled with water rather than lifting them up in a net? Or does it not make any difference?

Either way, good tip about the salt. I've always found molly fry to grow bigger the bigger the aquarium, and I've only ever seen really good sized specimens in decent sized aquarium.

Cheers,

Neale

That's an interesting question Neale. I've done it both ways. When you net them, you do have to take them out of the water which can be stressful. But it can also be hard to catch them with a cup, and it could take longer, therefore stressing them out from that. I've had no issue either way, so I guess it's personal preferance. I'd definitely recommend blocking out her "due date", and moving her a bit before that, so you're not moving her while she's in labor, or close to it. :p

so now i have a question how do you know when your milloe is going to be in labor or know when the due date should be can you elaborate on it for me

Well, there is no way to *really* tell when she's going to be in labor, I was just making a point. :p They usually have fry every month or so, but you should get to know your individual fish, and figure out her average pregnancy term, then block out from there. :)
