Botia Sidthimunki

Ive had 3 in a 15G tank for ages now, great character fish although they are usually more like £8-10 each when I see them, although £3.50 is a bargain!

Ben

I found out off the guy in the shop that the wholesaler had shipped them as Chipmunk botia and that is why they were only £3.50 and not nearer £8, the manager was certain that they were Sidthimunki but he decided not to hike the price up to what the other shops are charging as they are still making a profit on them at £3.50. Its nice to find a shop that is willing to pass savings onto their customers rather than thinking only about lining their own pockets :) .

oohhh they are so cute! :hyper:
i saw a few a while ago in my LFS..soo tempted but i dont have the room unfortunately :(

I have 1 of those, it was 2 but one died, he wasnt very well

I paid loads for mine, at £3.50 that was a steal

Wow always wanted a nice big shoal but the cheapest I have seen them was 6 quid each :/

Great pics btw!!! :good:

yeah I think I paid about 6.99 or 7.99 for mine :( They were small as well, those in the pictures look very big, my one remaining botia is about 1" long if that lol

Cheers guys, they are starting to fill out well now. The pictures are a bit misleading as the fish were only about 3/4" when I got them, they are now just over 1" and starting to fatten up.

nice, mine remaining fish seems to be a slow grower, what are you feeding them?

having seen your lovely chain loaches, I have been out today and bought 3 Lochachata. :)

SO I got 1 Sidthimunki, 1 Macrantha and 3 lochachata :hyper: Loach, n catfish mad.

My loaches get the same as all my other fish which is:

Flake food general and spirulina, Hogh protein granules, Sera discus granules, catfish pellets, bloodworm pellets, algae wafers and Nishi-aquaria floating pellets.

They also get the following frozen food:

Mysis shrimp, Artemia, bloodworm, black midge larvae and liquidised prawn (homemade).

I am slowly building up my collection of Loaches, I have 3 dojo, 3 Dario, 1 Rostrata, 1 Kubotai, 5 Black Kuhli's, 6 Clowns and the 10 Sidthimunki :D .

wow, 7 or 8 pounds (I think, or is it Euros? I dunno). Over here in the US I can pick some of those up for 5-6 bucks a piece....I just can't get over how pricey stuff is over there!

Those loaches are gorgeous <smiles>, mine were about the same size when I got them a little over 2 years ago. This is what two of them look like now. They are still real characters, the hobbits of the Loach world.

All the best,

Yeah its £7-£8 sterling.

I haven't seen any in my not-so-lfs since I bought them, so I gather they are a rare find in my area, therefore a bit pricey.

My single chain loach is more golden than those pictured here, most in these pics seem white n black, mine is more white, gold n brown. he has started to put on weight so may he'l have a groth spurt and I'll see a larger fish in the future :D here's hoping.

Great fish! Excellent buy. Will definitely be stocking a tank with those in the future. A nice shoal of 6-8 would really make a tank like a 36g come alive. I'm thinking about pairing them with tiger barbs. That would be a handsome tank.

Did you know there scientific name was recently changed. Many of the Botia genus are now no longer Botia, including B. Sidthimunki. Just when I was learning, They go and change 'em on me. :grr:
