Help.. I Have 0.25 Ammonia And Nitrite..

I dont understand what is causing this problem..

ive added nothing to the tank.. im doing weekly water changes, im cleaning out the filter housing, (see my juwel question in the hardware section).... and yes im cycling through the blue sponges and rinsing them in tank water...

SO how am i losing some of the bacteria.. are Juwel filters just bad.. or am i doing something wrong..

I know it increases, but its better to understand what has caused the rise in the levels so that it does not happen any more..

what sort of filter is it because the bactiria can live what 3 hours without water n o2?!? something like that
has the flow rate changed ?

or a min cycle?

filter hasnt changed..

well ive done a second water change this morning and the nitrite is now at 0... .which it wasnt a couple of hours ago.. how come a small water change can almost completely remove the nitrite.. it doesnt make sense that the amount of water i changed would dilute it to that extent...

Oh boy. this water keeping can be a challenge.....

ooh.. tell me more about dead spots...

i have always wondered if the direction of my filter outlet caused a problem for some of the water being filtered enough..

i will draw up the tank to illustrate what i mean..

EDIT: here it is... (very crude.. but you get the idea..)

its a view from the top.. the filter output points upwards in the direction shown.. thee reason for this is that if i point it in the direction of the valis, it goes all over the place..

so.. could this be causing as dead spot, and so more difficult water keeping ;)

i am by far no expert but ive heard that dead spots can occur under things like bogwood etc and can get very nasty as a build up of no2-3 forms its the same as dead spots in gravel n sand i think, also i think it happens in places with no/little water circulation but you better get someone who knows more on the subject

oohh never saw that image first, where you take your water from?
because the whole left side would have little curculation , try a small filter/air stone

Yeah.. ive been a little daft i expect.. i shouldnt have believed that it would probably be ok... silly me..

well at least i was keeping on top of the testing and caught it early..

it looks like this now.. the outlet is pointed a bit at the side, to take off some of the impact on the valis..

it causes a bit of valis bending in the corner, but the dwarf gouramis and the angelfish, seem to be enjoying playing in it.. so.. let them play i guess!!!!
