First...I want to appologize since it's the 2nd time I have been a dork and accidently posted in the non-marine section of the board. I get 2 windows opened up when I'm not focused on what I'm doing and well...having mod'ed for other forums I know people doing that can be a pain :*)

Anyway...here is what I was posting before I messed up and hit the button in the wrong window...

I am having trouble with Chaeto in my 5g tank. No matter how many times I untangle it, it keeps wrapping around my Caulerpa and making macro balls. Are there any inverts that will eat Chaeto? I would like to throw some in my 12g if such inverts exist...I'm not sure I want to remove the entire lump of chaeto since it is a nice filtration booster, just the parts that are getting too chummy with the Caulerpa. I am worried if I let it spin out of control it will smother the Caulerpa, which is the macro I would prefer to have (despite iffy-ness in small tanks, it's been useful for my attempts at getting Nerites to spawn since it provides an egg-laying surface)

No....it is not well liked by animals that eat algae. Not sure why tho. SH

Got crabs? LOL. My crabs decimated any macro I tried plaing in my tank. :/ Try some! Im sure some SPS reefers will hand you some for free. Try and get crabs that are omnivorous. These crabs have small, even sized pincers.

Anything would eat the caulerpa before touching the Cheato, its not good taseing, its poisonous, and it is hard, a better use would be to pull out the chaeto and use it as a brillo pad to scrub algea from your glass.

fortunately Chaeto does not root, so it is generally easy to remove excess Chaeto.

I'm attempting to keep a steady Caulpera bunch in my 12g, so if I got a crab it sounds like they'd make short work of that and probably eat the Caulerpa preferentially anyway. I may take the Chaeto out, but it seems like a waste. I guess I could always try to keep it contained in my12g in something like those mini in-tank refugiums. That might be too ugly for even me though, not to mention hampering water flow.

LOL! I think I'll leave that to the biological magfloats running around tank
