Thought you guys would like to see the tank that got us hooked, my sons tank started off just as a small corner tank and now its been taken over by this one a 62 litre tank it was first set up back in October last year and touch wood other than the pump breaking down we havent had any problems with it.

He currently has a good stock of fish in it

3 firemouth chiclids
3 silver sharks
1 pink kissing gourami
4 cherry barbs
3 head & tail light tetras
1 clown loach
1 red tail black shark
4 black widows
& 2 plattys

And the plants seem to do well, just don't ask me to name the plants.

My own tank ia 180 litre juwel I think ive got it looking not bad, despite boiling i've got a little tanning from the bog wood but i'm not too fussed it looks more natural anyway and will fade in time just got to wait on the cycling I know patience is a virtue but..............

Just got to figure out now if the lighting level's ok 1 x 25w warmlight + 1 x 25w daylight the standard ones that come with the juwel just waiting on my reflectors arriving.

let me know what you think.

Now I'm going back to reading :p

are fish from the first tank going to be moving into the new tank?
looking good, BUT i think you're sons tank is overstocked!

nice tanks, just quickly when your bigger tank is fully cycled, the clown loach needs to be in a group of at least 3, and they do get quite large and the silver sharks get to big for either of your tanks, sorry to put a downer on them, thay are very pretty, but just not suitable for these fish.

Yes some of his fish will move down stairs but if we try to move all theres likely to be a fight

and he may be small but he has a lot of muscles

hehe, how old is your son?

show him the maths of the situation, he'll understand!

adult sizes of each of your fish:
firemouth cichlid - 5 inches each
silver (bala) shark - 13 inches each
pink kissing gourami - 6-12 inches
cherry barb - 2 inches each
head & tail light tetras - 2 inches each
clown loach - 12 inches
red tail black shark - 5 inches
black widow tetras - 2 inches each
platys - 1.5-2 inches each

add all that up, and, even though all the species don't strictly follow the inch-per-gallon rule, 109 inches off fish.
that's a lot of meat in a 15 gallon (ish) tank!

and if he still doesn't get the message, put him in a cupboard for half an hour, that's how the fish feel! hehe.

Thanks for that he originally had 2 clown loaches but sadly one tane ill and died :( And I was in a pet shop last week and understand perfectly about the sharks but they are pretty. I'll probably let him keep them for the moment and if they start to outgrow the tank I'll have a word with the nice pet shop man :/

My son is 9 but he does a lot of swimmimg with his club hence the muscles

I think however I have a cunning plan when he is asleep I will remove 1/2 the fish and replace them with some of those rock people you use4d to get in the joke shop he will never notice (yea right!)

He just came back from school and success got my tape measure out and went through your list and he said "wo! Ive got too many fish in the tank" :grr: "I'll give you some for your tank" :)

Just to let you know if you arent already aware, some fo the plants in your sons talk arent aquatic plants too (They also look plastic I'm not sure). Looks awfy crowded in there :/

Yep we agree its a bit crowded and some fish will be moving home but it is real plants :hey:

The only thing I don't like about your sons tank is the substrate, it makes the tank look tacky, but it's actually a really nice tank, so is yours. I am just not in favour of fake-looking gravel. :p
Sorry,
Neal

Pink kissers are really cool fish... too bad they get so big! The place I used to work at had a 10'' pink kisser in a 20g tank with feeder goldfish and it never touched any of them... it didn't touch food either and died 2 months later

Well each to their own but hey he's only 9 and it was either that or bright pink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really nice tanks,
I agree with the others- Just to let you know, often it feel like we are all giving you aslating on here! but honestly we are trying to help!
You and you son have done a fantastic job but rehoming some of the fish is necercery.
Your sons tank is exactly how i would expect a 9yr old to set it up but your tan looks really nice!
One suggestion for your tank- Get some taller plants in there for example vallis which is cheap and really easy to grow.
James
