Finally i got a pic of my catfish but i dont have a scooby what it is. It was sold to me as an upside down, which it looked similar too when it was small, but now its nothing like it. It has a HUGE dorsal fin which is nearly twice the height of its body when its up.

Firstly id like an id if possible.

Secondly you see the white mark on its side. Its not fungus, or cotton woll growth. Its new, and he had one on his side much bigger but its gone, and this one appeared. Its flush with skin, not a bump or a spot. Any ideas. I think it may be a bite mark, but it could only com from the syno ocellifer that is about an inch larger than he is, about 8" long

I concure that it is most likely a bit mark.
most synos don't like other synos so they can become very territorial/aggressive.

The one with the mark is definately a syno of some kind, I just can't pin it down from those pics

that's interesting - someone else a few months ago also posted a pic of their syno with almost the exact same marking ! They also didn't know where it came from and it's always been there (or never went away). I'll try and dig it up when I have time.

syno (fan tail),

mine used to get the same marks, keeped it in with malawi chiclids so probably bite marks.

that one looks quite skinny tho.

my ocellifer had a white mark simular to that and i put it down to a tear on something in the tank as i dont think anything in my tank would be brave enough to bite him!!
it just seemed to fade away on its own.
nath1
any excuse to post a pic of him.
