I did my weekly trip around lfs today and at one of the more reputable outlets they had a rather expensive anemone. It was labelled as a Cream Malu. I have been looking up Malu's and it seems that most of them are white when purchased. These specimens usually do not live more than 6mths, due to having expelled their zooxanthellae. This particular nem did not look a transparant white more cream with a green tinge to it.
I have read on the net that cream malu's do occur in the wild, and seen in the trade.
So my question is - Do you think this nem could be one of the cream malu's or is it more likely a malu deviod of zooxanthellae??

Any advice on care or reef compatibility would be great. thanks
(the nem is still at the lfs)

All I know is that Anenomes need a very mature system to increase the chances of survival and that white ones are usually on their way out due to the expulsion of their zooxanthellae. I myself don't agree with buying Anenomes as they don't live long and all it does is continue the trade so I haven't researched them at all.

I have had some very bad experience with anemones. Dont even try them until your sure the tank is mature and you have enough light. I wish sometimes that people would stop selling them, because anemones will often crumble in the hands of even the best reefers with the best equipment.

However, malus are fairly good reef candidates.

Its bleached and not cream im afraid. :(

My Malu is exactly the same colour. It refuses to take food so i guess only time will tell as to whether both of these will live into the coming winter
