My Angel fish has a whitish spot on its tailfin. When I have seen ick before it didn’t look exactly like this, in the past I have seen in on the body not the fins and it was a very small white sand like spot. This has a small white spot (looks like ick) surrounded by a translucent white patch about 3mm in diameter. Is this ick or something else?

No other fish in the tank seem affected at this point.

I can try to get a pic if that will help, but a good picture will be unlikely due to the size of this spot...

amm, nitrite = 0
nitrate = 8
Ph=7.2
kh=95

could be fin rot. without seeing the pic i cant be sure. have a look on google and see how it compares? hope this puts you in the right direction?

dan

Could be columnaris spot, any red on the spot, also any fluffiness to the spot, also is the fish flicking and rubbing against objects, any laboured breathing, check the gills to see if they are inflamed or pale, any excess mucas on the gills.

I am attaching a picture. (I will work on getting a better pic)

No red on the spot , no fluffiness, no rubbing, no laboured breathing, no xs mucas , not inflamed gills nor pale: this fish is behaving normally and eating normally (perhaps a little bit more lethargic)... ang.jpg

I would try a few water changes for now to see if that helps, it dosn't look to bad.
Can you post a pic of the full fish as i can see a red patch.

yeah thats the beginning of fin rot. its not going to be a problem its easily treated and youve caught it early, your lack of regular water changes is probably the cause. i would carry out a 30% water change everyweek and depending on the tank mates, add a tablespoon of salt per ten gallons of water.

Good observation; the patch is more brown than red in reality, I cant tell if it is "normal" or not...

When I look very close at this white spot , it does look a bit fuzzy..

I will post a full pic ASAP, (4-5 HRS due to commitment )

Unless the new pic changes my impression, I would take cautious observation at the moment.....SH

Thanks for the help but "lack of regular water changes" is an assumption. I do a 25% change every 5-6 days....Unfortunately I have corries, regarding salt.....

Ok, my angel is definitely more "lazy" or lethargic than usual, but still eating at about 80% of normal "voracity".

If I look VERY close, I can see a few small, very light reddish patches on my angel. Not close to the white spot on her tail, but on her body instead....

I should explain that this fish just went through a levamisole deworming treatment, as did all my tanks. I failed to quarantine some wild caught rainbowfish and paid the price....(so did my fish). One of the originally infected rainbowfish died from the worms so far. All fish appear to have "passed" the worms at this point, three weeks after treatment....

Attached is a better pic. You can see the white spot on her caudal fin, I am wondering about the very slight reddish areas , above her eye , behind the black strip that goes thru the eye...This appears to be some sort of irritation....

I have heard that few fish are expected to survive camallanus infection...no fish have died since treatment; this angel had one visible worm protruding from her anus BEFORE treatment. This worm is gone now....

Red patches can be speticemia, but looking at the pic it looks like an ulcer to me, i would issolate the fish and start and antibiotic treatment which I know you have.

I have not isolated the fish yet....I have a 10g with a couple tetras in antibiotics now....isnt a 10g to small for an angel?

When you say a few water changes, what do you mean? 20% a day for 4 days perhaps? ...

Well if you wan't to save the fish a ten gal will have to be fine.
No meds in the main tank as the tank as been through enough, plus antibiotics will destroy some of the bacteria.
