I have recently been bought by my bew owner and cos he hasn't got a clue about fish :hey: i want to let him know what i am. Please can you help :look:

Hmm... whatever you are, you're a clever little thing if you can type!

Anyway, as soon as I saw you, the body shape cried out "gibbiceps catfish"! The big fins and slender body in particular. These used to be very common a few years ago. Latin name Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps. But the markings are wrong for that species. "Gibbies" have a very giraffe-like pattern.

So, off to Planet Catfish to see what other Glyptoperichthys species there are, and lo and behold, came across this little fellow: Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus. I think that's what you are!

Thats the fella, i do have 2 of them 1 about 4" long the other is about half the size.

No problem.

Do be careful with them though... a lot of plecs can be remarkably territorial as they mature. 'Gibbies' certainly can be, and I'd imagine this one will be too. Raising fish together can help, of course, but there's no guarantees.

He's an L001 - Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus...

Should be a lot smaller than a gibby :)
