My Blood Parrot

Just wanted to share a few pics of my blood parrot Pinky! The first pic is a good one showing off her pretty fins! The two after that are showing her when she is in breeding condition. When she gets lavendar splotches on her body, I know she will be laying eggs soon! BTW, the pics really don't do her coloration any justice.

She's beautiful. How do you sex parrots? I have a juvenile parrot but not sure if male or female.

It was so easy for me.... since she's the only BP in the tank, and she guards the eggs, then of course there was the whole "I watched her laying the eggs" thing....I thought it was a safe guess to say that she's a she!

But really, you have to wait until the fish are in breeding condition. Then you can tell by the breeding tubes of the fish. The female will have a shorter, rounder tube and the male will have a longer, pointier tube.

Thats cool that it gets that blotchy coloring.. never seen that in a parrot before.. very cool.. she just needs a friend to fertilize the eggs
