i used 2 sheets of black cardboard from a local art shop (i think some whsmiths do card too.) Less than £1.50 and its been on there nearly 2 months jus with sellotape at the top.

I used construction paper, which definately doesn't bounce a lot of the light back.

A black background is always best IMO, i really dont like those backgrounds with images of plants/rocks on them.

I think im inclined to agree. But doesnt it look better with black paint on the back, as opposed to a film of card?
 
IMO, Painting the back walll of your tank is ALOT easier than the normal plastic bag or plastic sheet. Its beter in the long run aswell. I wish i had painted mine.
