Got this new shrimp and not sure what kind he is. So that pretty much it.

Its a red cherry shrimp. They usually grow to about 1inch and they are very sensitive to amonia and nitrite.
 
Just Wondering do they filter feed or something because i've noticed that on his claws or hands he has these feathery things.
 
that is most definatly not a red cherry shrimp it is either
a bamboo shrimpAtyopsis spinipes(8cm)
or a common fan shrimp Atyopsis moluccensis (6cm)
 
suposedly the forelegs of the bamboo shrimp (A.spinipes) are thicker than the
common shrimp; however unless you have the two together you really cant tell.

it shouldn't matter too much as both require the same water params and food etc.
if your shrimp grows more than 6cm then it is a bamboo, if not it is the common;
only time will tell
