Ok someone on theese forums is bringing me my 22Ltr on Sunday-
I am going to set it all up that day and start to cycle it-
I plan to use sand or maybe gravel(What is best for a siameese fighter)
Plant the tank mainly with vallis.
And buy a few females hoping to eventually breed them.
This is the fish i hope to have however i crowntail.
I have never kept betta's and to be quite honest don't know much about them for example can i keep corries with them,
Please fill me in with the basics and then if i have any problems once i get him i can ask on here.
Thanks alot,
James

as paige said beautiful betta. many people on here know about bettas, so i'm sure they'll be able to help.

Yeah not that one exactly but all white getting it off kg betta's

Stunning betta! He would be great to breed.

In his tank, you can have either sand or gravel. They don't constantly burrow around, so it's totally up to your personal preference. Planted tanks are very good - live plants are best.
You can keep them with cories. Cories are peaceful, non-nipping, bottom dwellers, so they are great with bettas. However, if you are going to get cories, you may want to go with sand. Sand is safer for the cories' little barbels and makes it easier to sift through the bottom.

If you get the females, do not keep them with the male. Keep them in a large group in their own tank.

If you have anymore questions, just ask! There are tons of knowledgable keepers here!

Gee thanks, are Kg Betta's reliable or do you think i should start on a cheapish one from my lfs?

Good luck with your betta, sounds great.

The tank (22 ltrs= 5-6 gals) is going to be too small for a betta and corys, unless you get 3 pygmy corys or something. You could also keep him with a shrimp or something.

Betta breeding is a complicated and VERY expensive affair, so you may want to hold fire on that for the time being until you have found your feet and got some practice at breeding easier egglayers. You need to be able to keep the male and the female separately, condition them VERY carefully before they are brought together, then you need a growout tank for the fry (they can literally have hundreds!), and once the fry hit puberty you need separate small growing tanks for each male. This works out as an awful lot of water changes! And not least- you need to find a home for all your bettas.

But of course, having a betta is great fun even if you don't have the resources to breed. Enjoy!

Great thanks for the advice, am clearing out my 65Ltr so i am going to keep the females in there, I'll breed them when i get a bit more experienced but i can get a hexagonal 50Ltr for tempory so the fry can grow up, the lfs says he will take any unwanted fish off of me and im sure if i sold them on here for £1 each i would be minted if i ahve 100 :D
