300 litre tank planted with Vallis, Water Wisteria and Telanthera lilacina. I have fine gravel as a substrate. There are a number of rocks, slate and stones in there which I have made a wall of caves and some odd stones lying around along with some small bogwood. The filtration is from a Fluval 4 plus and a Fluval 2 plus which was already matured when I had them. The heater is a 200 Watt Visitherm Heater/Thermostat and a 200 Watt Atman Heater/thermostat. The light is from a 40 watt white light. Between the light and the plant substrate, the Wisteria and Vallis are growing abundantly (I have to prune at least once a week) but the Lilacina is not doing so well. I have no CO2 injection.
The livestock at present is 3 Bolivian Ram who are excellent fish. They watch me all the time and are beautiful fish. I bought these from Tri-Mar. They have their scraps every now and then but are peaceful most of the time. There are 7 zebra danio in there. 3 are from on LFS and the other 4 are from Tri-Mar. The 3 from my LFS are alot smaller than Tri-Mar's, theyve been in the tank now for over a month and haven't grown. I have one three lined cory at the moment. Originally, I had 3. 2 got stuck behind the original rock wall I made and died. The wall has been changed now as it also killed 5 Cherry Shrimp. These Cherry Shrimp hid from the Rams (Tri-Mar told me that the Rams would ignore them and the Shrimp would live happily with them). It seems, after moving the rocks to find a lost cory, that the Shrimp simply grew out of the space that they hid in and basically squashed themselves on the rock. Ive actually found 2 shrimp survivors!! The tank was a right mess after that discovery and the smell was appalling. After a few huge water changes, things have settled and the fish are much happier. I plan to up the Cory stock as soon as funds allow me too although Im worried about overstocking so may leave things as they are. I have 4 Oto in the tank as well. They were bought from Tri-Mar and seem very happy. Theyve been in there a month now and have grown a great deal from their tadpole looking size when I first got them. They are a lovely looking fish and much better than plecos in my opinion. The fish are fed on Aquarian Fish Flake once a day, Tubifex once a week and Tetra Variety Wafers three times a week. The Rams love the wafers and actaully swim around sucking them in their mouths which is comical to say the least. I also put in some cucumber once a week for the oto.
Ive recently added some MTS, 10 Harlequins, 4 Red Nose Shrimp, 5 Albino Cory and 3 African Dwarf Frogs.
All in all, Im very happy with the set up. I came back to fishkeeping after 3 years off. I kept fish for 5 years before that and made all the timeless mistakes we all make in this hobby. Im still making them now!!!
