I know they are very aggressive possibly more relentless than Mbuna so I would provide more rocks / cover for sub dominant and female fish. Never kept them but have been very tempted a few times. Good Luck.
Hi Clark, I think Rabbut might have a point high Nitrate levels are adicic and since your water is probbaly the same as mine (PH 7 KH 3) it has probbaly lowered the PH very low. >6
I think the The Nitrogen cycle is less effective at a lower PH, could be why it`s slow.
If you need a hand let me...
Hi Clark, it sounds to me as the tank is taking a while to cycle because it hasn`t been "seeded" by means of squeezings or mature filter media, in other words it`s leaving it to chance for the required bacteria to colonize your filter.
With the filter being seeded it can around 6 weeks or less...
Melanochromis interruptus Nice fish not too aggressive for a Melanochromis sp.
Blue checked males yellow females.

I bought a Trio of Wild Caught Estherae on Saturday, although he`s skinny and a bit ragged I am really pleased with him, he`s been colouring up white and shimmying in front of his girls for days.

The Zebra Chilumba wasn`t totally impressed...

Ferris , I never seen one like even WC. They tend not to cvolour up much and end up being very drab.
I agree if they looked like that yes they would be nice.
It`s definitely one of the lake victoria cichlids, not exactly sure which one maybe Pundamilia nyererei , they are known to be more aggressive than Malawi`s.
