Water green, tank smells like a swamp!

It's no wonder he is stressing the fish and tearing up the plants, both of those are primary components of RES diet in the wild. He is being what he is. 10g will do ok for a while, but if you get him into a bigger tank he will appreciate it and when you see him swimming you will know it is better.

    How long for baby angels

I have angelfish fry that have been free swimming for about a week. Iwas wondering when they would start looking like angels instead of that generic "FRY" shape. You know what I mean...they way they look now they could be baby bettas, or guppies even. Still too small for mollies, even...

    I've got convict babies!

 If you are in my part of the world I'll take some off your hands when they are big enough. :grr: Of course, no one is in my part of the world. I am not even here often. :fun:

Oh My GOD I got an ALTUM!

:( Claire, we aren't trying to rain on your parade. The advice being given here is in the interest of trying to make that fish as happy and healthy as it can be. If you get this hex tank and if you still bring home this altum, just keep him in there alone. Do not worry about pairs and trios...

    I got a new fishie...

Why do you say definitely not cambodian? Iwould say he is almost a classic example of cambodian. Usually they have black eyes, but not always. Beautiful fish

    Female colour change...

Generally color change is due to emotion, or as close to it as fish have. She is probably uncertain (and therefore a little stressed) about the new tank mate. With time she should get her color back. If not, after a while you may want to change things around. It is ultimately up to you.

Do you cycle Your betta bowls/tanks?

LEss than 5 gallons (and some would say 10g) tanks are too small to hold a stable cycle. It is far better to do the frequent large changes. Above 10g cycling is the way to go, for bettas or any other fish.

    your little baby

 Most of you are saying the fish that you have had the LONGEST are your favorite. (except Claire, whom I can tell is still "giggly" over her altum. I would be too.) My favorite fish (plural) are my newest. I finally managed to get the eggs to hatch from my two breeding angelfish...

    Ryukin requirements

My daughter chose a ryukin for her birthday gift on a "pick out whichever fish you want" trip to the pet store. He is living in an unheated 10g with a decent filter. I understand he will eventually need bigger accomodations and plans are secretly in the works for upgrades as gifts later, but...

    Fish names...

Personally, I prefer the matriarchs, B. A continues your car theme, but those manes could be used for future male betta purchases, or other such things. The femininity of the sorority tank is highlighted by theme B.

    Lifespan of angels

A good way to remember is this...if you don't know then you have a P. scalare. P. altum, or Giant or Deep Angelfish are much larger (as in salad plate) and MUCH more expensive (as in possibly $100+). They are almost exclusively wild caught and do not breed easily in tanks. Because of this they...

Oh My GOD I got an ALTUM!

 Sweet buy, Kopix Nation. I saw a couple of full grown (I would assume) P. altums at the Memphis Zoo Aquarium. They were the size of dinner plates. When you get the tank remember, taller is better with angels. I am sure you know that. Watch your water params, altums are notoriously...

    bettas and shrimps

Aeration does not mean a gap, it means bubbles...a pump and air line and bubble stone. It adds oxygen to the water.
