    A Few Questions...

I would say the second picture could be a female since the belly is more deeper and round, but its really just a guess. When they mature more you'll be able to tell them apart more easily once the females start developing eggs.

    A Few Questions...

To tell the difference between gender, the easiest way for dwarf/honey gouramis are their colour. Males will have very vibrant colouration, while females will be more pale and dull in colour. Heres an example: They won't breed unless the female is ready. You can tell by the size of the...

    Help Me!

Gouramis are egg layers, which mean the female produces the eggs and stores them inside her. In this situation you need a male gourami in order for them to breed. They are not livebearers like guppies or mollies. They are also bubble nest builders, like betta fishes. If both are ready to breed...

Help Im Unsure If I Am Sexing My Pearls Right

Pearl gouramis may develop different traits than the 3-spot gouramis. The best way to tell a female and male apart is that the male will develop a very orange or red belly and long frills at the end of their dorsal and anal fin. Females will be slightly more plump with little to no orange belly...

I've Gone Mad For Gourami Lately

I have never heard of a lavender gourami before. It looks like a gold gourami to me from the lighting and colour.

    Mixing Species Gender

They are all the same species with just different colours. It wouldn't matter if the female was either red or blue. Usually females are very dull in colour and lack the vibrant blue or red that the males have. Females are usually silver or a brown colour, but may have slight red or blue. Adding...

    Aggressive Gouramis

What is the size of your tank? The more space the male has the less likely he'll attack the female. Also a heavily planted tank may calm the male down a bit. Another choice is to add another female if you have the room since gouramis do best in a trio, 1 male to 2 female ratio. It is best to get...

    3 Male Dwarf Gouramis

You might be able to get away with 3 male dwarves if your tank has enough room for them to establish their territories. Also, a lot of plants or decorations for places to hide may also ease agression. At feeding times, if you see they are fighting over the food, try placing food on opposite...

Co2 System Not Using Yeast Method Or Pressurized

It looks like one of those carbon blocks that is used for CO2 and you would have to replace it after awhile. It's not a very popular way to obtain CO2 so I would just stick with either pressurized of yeast method, IMO.

    Gourami Pictures

Yeah pearls and 3-spots grow to be about 4-5 inches, and like above, is best suited in a trio 1m 2f. Also, they are territorial and may create their own little area. Make sure you have hiding places or a few plants incase one or the other gets too much stress from being chased.

    Dosing Ferts Kills Shrimp?

Does dosing ferts kill shrimp? I want to do a mid-tech planted tank and so I will need to dose ferts, but would that hurt shrimps if I plan to get some? Maybe cherries or CRS.

    Zebra Danio Discolouration

That might be because you just got them. They can become dull if they are stressed out or when they are moved to a new environment. Keep and eye on it and see how it does. Also make sure your tank is fully cycled or your water parameters are good.

    New To This

What kind of pleco is it? Usually people get a fish they don't know much about and end up with a dead fish, or one that grows super large. In your case if it happens to be a common pleco, its going to grow to about 20 inches long. I'm not saying you did anything wrong, but hopefully your pleco...
