    hi i have a problem with algae growing throughout my sand substrate. is there anything i can do to remove it apart from emptying the whole thing out and cleaning it? its a tanganyikan cichlid tank (shellies) so dont want to disturb them too much. can you buy tablets/treatment or anything...

    the tank is 100 cm long, 40 cm deep and 50 cm high. Its 180 litres (UK). I will go back tomorrow and see if i can get a couple of females. The problem is the shopkeeper isnt sure which is which! and im not an expert. thanks for your help :hyper:

    ive got 4 in total - just bought randomly from a store. Turns out that 3 are male and 1 female - i have about 30 escargot shells scattered around with rocks at either end, sand substrate. will 3m 1f be a problem??

    I have just bought 4 brevis shellies. They are in a large tank by themselves. The problem is I think 3 are male and only 1 female - and the female wont come out from hiding amongst a pile of rocks. Will she ever come out? or do i need to buy a couple more females? thanks

    Thanks guys - i will go with the Cyprichromis leptosomas - they look like really nice fish. One more question though! Im going to get brevis shellies and Cyprichromis leptosomas. How many of each is a good number to start the community? and what sex should they be?? thanks very much
