I have struggled with my shrimp tank over the last couple of months and have benefited from input from many of you during that time. Last week was a tough time- I lost my favorite - the Mexican Dwarf Crawdad and also lost a berried female. The water parameters are great except that I've had trouble with nitrates.
I was pretty much giving up on having any real success with the tank. Having said that, I'm keeping up with maintenance and being careful to limit food, etc. anyway. I did a water change this evening and dropped in a little hiding tube made of wood & other things that shrimp like. I immediately had several interested, and as I looked, I realized that it's not as bad as I was thinking- I mean, IMHO the tank looks pretty good and there are still a fair number of healthy shrimp in there- cherry, amano, ghost and a big bamboo.
